About NIACTM

The Northern Ireland Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a professional association, representing professional Acupuncturists and herbalists, registered with NIATCM. As a professional association we are a leading self-regulatory body for the practice of Acupuncture and TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine) in Northern Ireland.

Our mission is to ensure our professional members provide safe, effective treatments for a range of conditions. The World Health Organisation has listed a number of conditions which research has shown to effectivly be treated by Acupuncture.


Professional Acupuncture and Herbal Training

The Acupuncture Foundation Ireland provide professional training courses which are accredited inĀ  Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK. Training is delivered in a blend of online live streamed lectures linked to practical and clinical skills training sessions.

When choosing a practitioner you should be reassured that NIATCM members are trained professionals, according to best international standards. They are ethical, competent practitioners,  bound by strong codes of ethics and safe practice.

The practitioner will discuss the presenting condition, as well as background, lifestyle and dietry information. The focus will be on delivering a holistic treatment, so that the presenting condition can be treated effectively, as well as addressing an  underlying cause.

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture originated in China thousands of years ago and is now practiced throughout the world. It is a complete system of drug free treatment based on the principles of maintaining health and treating disease by balancing the energies of the body.

Chinese Herbalism is also part of Chinese Medical therapies and has many years of safe and effective practice. Some of our professionally trained Acupuncture practitioners have completed post graduate training in Chinese Herbalism.

Acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment, as fine, sterile, single use needles are inserted by the trained practitioner. NIATCM members must meet a high standard of training and practice, and provide treatments according to a strong code of ethics and best practice.

Acupuncture needles are very fine and insertion is usually pain free. Many people feel extreme relaxation during and following a treatment.

There is strong evidence of effect for acupuncture treatments for a number of conditions, Most of our members will be happy to discuss your condition with you to help you understand if  acupuncture could treat your condition.

During the initial consultation, the practitioner will discuss and a treatment plan with you so you know what to expect.

The continuing growth and popularity of acupuncture throughout the world is evidence of it`s effect in the treatment of both  acute and chronic conditions. The World Health Organisation has issued a  list of disorders in which research has shown acupuncture to be clinically effective.

Traditional Chinese Acupuncture is a holistic approach used for a very wide range of conditions. This is known as Traditional Chinese Acupuncture, and has thousands of years of safe practice, initially in China and over the last century in the western world.

Medical Acupuncture is a recent approach used mainly by doctors and physiotherapist and is often used only for pain relief and muscle-joint problems, rather than providing holistic or systemic treatment according to TCM theories. 

NIATCM members practice Traditional Chinese Acupuncture to enable them to offer diagnosis and tratment for most conditions.
